Brian Mayes

 Working with you in St. Vital

Brian Mayes has represented St. Vital Ward since November 2011, where he was elected to Winnipeg City Council in a by-election. He currently chairs the Water & Waste, Riverbank Management and the Environment Committee, serves on the Executive Policy Committee and is the Liaison For School Boards & Youth Opportunity.

Brian grew up in St Vital where he attended Hastings Elementary and Jnr. High, and Dakota Collegiate. He resided in Toronto before he returned to Manitoba in 2000 to begin his career as a lawyer. Before moving back to Winnipeg Brian worked first in Brandon, where he served as a school trustee and operated his own law firm. Following his return to Winnipeg, Brian worked as a lawyer at a downtown firm, and then in St Vital.

Brian has served on the boards on many organizations including: Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba (oversees assets of Credit Union system), Morrow Avenue Child Care, Old St. Vital Biz, and Brandon University. He has served as a pension trustee for the Manitoba Association of School Trustees, and a Deputy Chief Commissioner with the Residential Tenancies Commission.

Brian was a public interest representative on the Board of the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba, and was appointed by fellow lawyers as a member of the Law Society of Manitoba's complaints investigation committee.

Brian resides in the St Vital ward with his wife Dr. Alison Marshall and their two elementary-school aged sons. Brian has volunteered as a soccer and basketball coach at Norberry-Glenlee and Dakota (Jonathan Toews) Community Centres. Brian is a retired marathon runner whose career peaked with a top 15 finish in the Manitoba Marathon - he now runs after his sons for exercise.
