More thoughts on Edmonton and Calgary and densification...
Edmonton’s infill strategy has been praised by many writers, but there is one detail that seems to have been overlooked. There are only 70 km of gravel lanes in the entire city of Edmonton (population 972,000), versus 60 km of gravel lanes in the St. Vital ward (population 49,000). The City of Winnipeg’s plan to quadruple the population on streets with gravel and mud lanes is not consistent with what other major cities are doing.
